Philippe's Roussillon Vintage service

We found a gem from the Cotes du Roussillon, which is definitely an underrated wine with a lousy 88pt rating. This wine is one of the baby bottles from the very well known winery (Domaine de Nidoleres) in the Roussillon.

Domaine de Nidoleres La justine Cotes du Roussillon 2008-

Plush, offering a lively mouthful of red berry and plum flavors, as well as lots of raspberry. The supple finish features touches of cream. Drink now through 2014. Only 500 cases made.

Rated 88 points by Wine Spectator

Philippe's 90pts Spanish

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen,

So it's my understanding that we have been doing too many French wines for the vintage service lately. Just wanted to say It's not our fault if they are so good. But we have looked up and down the wine map for our customers and found a gem right next door in Spain. The Triton winery is has been really great for us in the past and they have come out with a phenomenal 100% mencia grape wine once again.

Bodegas Triton Avante 2009-

The 2009 Avante is 100% Mencia sourced from multiple vineyards with an average age of 43 years. The wine was aged in both stainless steel (30%) and French oak (70%) for 5 months. It offers up notes of earthy minerals, a hint of balsamic, black cherries, and violets leading to a nicely proportioned, sweetly fruited, savory red with excellent volume and length. It is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 4-5 years.

Rated 90pts by Robert Parker and Stephen Tanzer

Philippe's Everyday Price $19.99- Vintage Service price $17.99 per bottle or $16.99 for 6 or more bottles

Philippe's Mini Chateuneuf du Pape

The Summer is almost over and here comes the Fall. It’s my favorite season personally, not because it’s my birthday nor because I get to eat a lot of candy for Halloween, but because I can start drinking some heavier wines. So why not start the season with a bargain, a Cotes du Rhone that taste like a mini Chateauneuf Du Pape, which Philippe and I tasted Monday in New Orleans.

Domaine de Marcoux Cotes Du Rhone 2008-

A combination of 97% Grenache and 3% Mourvedre and Cinsault. It offers deep black cherry fruit, roasted herb, and loamy soil characteristics presented in a medium-bodied, juicy, elegant format. Also it’s a biodynamically farmed vineyard.

Rated 90pts by Philippe’s Wine Cellar

Philippe’s Everyday Price $24.99- Vintage Service Price $19.99 per bottle, $18.99 for 6 or more, $17.99 for 12 bottles or more.

Philippe's 92pt Cotes Du Roussillon

Today, We are featuring a Cotes Du Roussillon from Domaine de Bila-Haut. Cotes Du Roussillon is located right around the corner in the Languedoc Region in the South of France. We have tasted this wine from vintage to vintage, it feels like it can't stop getting better.

Domaine De Bila-Haut Occultum Lapidem 2008-

The Bila-Haut 2008 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem - as usual, a roughly two-to-one blend of Grenache and Syrah vinified in large casks and tank - mingles pungently resinous herbs, tart-edged fresh black fruits, and beef marrow in a context of textural richness yet surprising levity and uncanny sheer refreshment for a red wine. "That's typical for the 2008 vintage after all," remarks Troullier of this wine's freshness, but I am also amazed to realize that it harbors a more-or-less normal alcohol for this cuvee of 14.5%, even though it acts as though there could hardly be much more than 13%. Persistently high-toned evocations of flowers and garrigue herbs as well as a mouthwatering salinity add to the allure and the finish here will leave your tongue delightedly tingling and panting for repeat sips

Rated 92 pts by Robert Parker.

Philippe's Everyday Price $24.99- Vintage Service Price $22 per bottle or $20 with purchase of 6 or more bottles.

Philippe's Bergerac Vintage Service

This week we are offering a pleasant easy drinking wine from the Bergerac region (neighboring Bordeaux). Chateau Poulvere 2009 is something brand new to our store. The wine is more fruit forward, therefore it is better with white meats and light cheeses that are available in our store.

Chateau Poulvere Bergerac 2009-

This is a 33.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33.3% merlot, 33.3% Cabernet Franc blend, it is very fruity (not sugar sweet) with red fruits notes: gooseberry, myrtil, very supple and very pleasant to taste. Slight earthiness in the finish. Light tannings. Doesn't need aging but can be held for 2-3 years if you want, otherwise it's ready to drink.

Philippe's Loire Valley Vintage Service

This is our first ever Loire Valley Region Vintage Service, which is surprising because a lot of great wines come out of the land of castles. Here is a link so you know where it is located:

http://www.mlecmn.net/~rossotto/beanery_wine_list_20071018_xx.htm

We are featuring Domaine de Nerleux winery in Saumur Champigny inside the Loire Valley, This wine is made of 100% Cabernet Franc. It is a treat and very hard to get, so don't pass this up!

Domaine de Nerleux "Les Loups Noirs" Saumur Champigny 2005 -

It is the plot called Tire-savatte which produces this blend, the slopes of which dominate the Thouet valley and the village of Saumoussay. This very concentrated vintage will seduce you by its aromatic expression extremely powerful linking red macerated fruits with liquorices, vanillas and grilled nuances. Born from a strict selection of mature grapes, this more autumnal vintage reflects all the concentration of Cabernet Franc vine on the Saumurois soil. All the cares given to these grapes give it a generous and powerful mouth which let express the mellow tannin, result of a long and careful growth. It's better to put it in a carafe before serving it at room temperature (65-68°) so will give its aromatic range and its opulent structure on delicious red meats, big game birds and chocolate cakes.

Philippe's Everyday Price $24.99- Vintage Service Price $22.50 per bottle or $21.25 for 6 or more bottles.

Philippe's Cotes du Rhone vintage service

We re-tasted the Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone lately and wow, they are fantastic purple colored syrahs made for everyday consumption. Not many Cotes du Rhone, which is located in Southern France, are made of mostly syrah. It is something you get more out of the North of the Rhone (St. Joseph, Cornas, Crozes Hermitage, etc...).

Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone 2009-

Made from 100% cool climate Syrah from the sector of Gard, which is well-known for its favorable terroir for Syrah, the tank-aged 2009 Cotes du Rhone exhibits a deep ruby/purple hue along with loads of peppery black fruits and a delicious, soft style.

Philippe’s Everyday Price $16.99- Vintage Price $15 per bottle or $14.50 for 6 or more

Saint Cosme Cotes du Rhone “Les Deux Albion” 2009-

Les Deux Albion is composed of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre and Clairette, all co-fermented and aged in primarily concrete tanks and some of the newer wood tanks called tronconique. This potentially outstanding effort reveals a big, sweet bouquet of flowers, black currants, black cherries, camphor and exotic tropical fruits. The wine is intense, luscious and silky smooth with ripe tannin yet adequate acidity. This medium to full-bodied

Philippe’s Everyday Price $22.99- Vintage Price $20.50 per bottle or $19.99 for 6 or more.

Philippe's 91pt Red Zinfandel

We offer affordable red Zinfandels from the Terra D'oro Winery, which compares to the Turley winery. Turley is definitely a top 10 best wineries in California. We have these wines at incredible prices from the Amador County, which is located in the Sierra Nevada Foothills about 45 miles southeast of Sacramento. They will be gone fast at these low prices so don't pass this up.

Terra D'oro Zinfandel Amador County Deaver Vineyard 2007-

Rich aromas of candied apple, cedar, mocha, ripe black cherries, new leather and violets. This elegant wine has flavors of dark chocolate, mocha, sour cherry, cranberry and black pepper with delicate notes of dry herbs and tea. This grapes are grown from 100 year old vines.

The wine finishes with a true taste of Amador County as the "Shenandoah Spice" lingers along the warm toasty notes of vanilla and molasses.

Fabre Montmayou Malbec

Lets change it up this week from the high rated Spanish wines to an easy drinking Argentinian Malbec. This Malbec is from the heart of wine country in Argentina, the region of Mendoza. This winery uses 50+ years old vines. This winery makes very elegant wines which are true to style.

Fabre Montmayou Malbec 2009-

Bright-ruby red. Perfumed aromas of blackberry and Licorice lifted by violet. Suave, dry and lively in the mouth, with nicely delineated flavors of dark berries, licorice, and chocolate. builds nicely on the back half, finishing with serious broad tannins and noteworthy energy. Very sophisticated, varietally accurate Argentina Malbec for the price.

Bodegas Borsao

Ladies and Gentlemen, Bodegas Borsao is still on a hot streak of coming out with great wines at a decent price. Tres Picos is one of many great wines they have come out with. It has had a minimum of 91 points ratings by Robert Parker and Stephen Tanzer since 2003 vintage. Tres Picos is made to drink now but can be aged 8-10 years.

Bodegas Borsao Tres Picos 2009-

Aged half in a stainless steel and half in French barriques glass-staining ruby. An explosive, flamboyantly perfumed bouquet exudes scents of blackberry, cherry cola, violet, and cracked pepper, plus a hint of smokiness. Deeply pitched flavors, of dark fruit and candied flowers reminds me of syrah, but red fruit notes emerge with air, confirming that this is a garnacha, not a syrah. Intense, focused and impressively persistent on the finish, which echoes the sweet red and dark fruit notes and leaves a subtle smoky quality.

Rated 92 points by Robert Parker

Philippe's everyday price $15.99 - Vintage service price $14.00/each or $13.50 for 6 or more bottles
